Feeling Fall-ish

As promised, here are some autumn decorations.

These were a real exercise in restraint for me, because I have a tendency to want to add tons of detail and fill everything in. They're little pillows made out of fuzzy fleece in plaid and stripes and stuffed with polyfill and pumpkin spice potpourri. (I sewed them on the machine.) I drew the patterns myself and stitched them onto burlap, which I then attached to the pillows. I used some ribbon for hanging, and that was all there was to it.

Stitching on the burlap was tricky, as I expected, because of the loose weave. I used Solvy to transfer the pattern, which held everything in place while stitching, but I had to be really careful about where I placed my stitches so they wouldn't disappear or get wonky once the Solvy was dissolved.

The most challenging part was getting the burlap onto the pillows, because it frays so easily and didn't hold up well from all the handling required to pull 6 strands of floss through the fleece. I'm not sure I want to work with burlap ever again--but I like the look.

These took almost no time at all to stitch up. In fact, the worst part was hand stitching the opening shut after everything else was put together. And the fleece made my hands sweat. But for the minimal amount of time involved, they look great, smell great, and really spruce up my house!

Hi - I think these are really sweet. Lovely colours. I'd keep going with your blog - I had a similar dilemma with mine eg. whether to keep it going. But it's fun anyway! It's interesting to read other people's ideas, work processes, etc. Your blog looks good too - keep going!
